Features and Benefits
Solargon Features & Benefits
Many housing developers provide a few headliner features which look good on paper, but don’t really provide much value. Solargons, on the other hand, provide a wide variety of features and benefits which will pay for themselves over and over again. And add to your comfort at the same time. At the end of the day, aren’t those the only features and benefits really really worth listing?
Fast, dried-in, enclosed structure.
Less material loss through theft, and your families can move into their homes much sooner.
Prebuilt wall and roof panels.
The Solargon’s structural insulated panels (SIPs) ensure a fast, efficient building setup. The 20’ model can be erected in mere hours; the 30’ model can be erected in less than two days. If your housing project needs a lot of homes fast, this is the fastest option available.
Professional engineer stamped plans
to speed the building permit process. Your base commander, neighborhood design review committee, and/or government agency inspectors will be pleased to see such sturdy materials and designs in use for your project.
Easy construction even in remote areas.
The structural insulated panels (SIPs) can be loaded into standard family-sized trucks, and can be carried by two people. The patented connectors require only simple hand tools and minimal training. No large equipment, no cranes, no power tools required. If your group specializes in helping people build their own homes, home construction doesn’t get much simpler than this. If you have a lot of homes to build, it doesn’t get any faster than this. Plus, we can package our building materials for extremely efficient overland transportation and unloading, which will save you even more time and money.
Cost effective construction and operation.
You’ll pay less labor to erect each Solargon and you’ll spend less over the lifetime of the structure, than you would for conventional buildings. If you’re trying to pencil out the costs of a whole neighborhood, the math gets better for every additional Solargon you use.
Small environmental footprint.
The structural insulated panels (SIPs) are composed of renewable materials, the building envelope ensures a good tight structure, the insulation ensures low utility bills, the layout ensures efficient air movement and the building design maximizes both passive and optional active solar gain. Your affordable housing project will be easy on your budget and on the planet.
Excellent indoor air quality.
The panels’ natural materials, combined with the open layout, help prevent mold and mildew and minimize off gassing. The tight construction blocks drafts. No formaldehyde, asbestos, fiberglass, cellulose or VOC’s are used in any of the construction materials. Your families won’t merely have a house. They’ll have a healthy, comfortable, affordable home.
Custom layouts.
Each floor plan is open, bright and well ventilated, aided by the custom aircraft-grade acrylic operable skylight. Your dream floor plan is possible because the walls and roof form a structurally monolithic, load bearing shell. Interior walls are not required, thus room arrangement is completely flexible. The 30’ model has sufficient interior height for a loft, thus increasing the available square footage. If your housing project includes individuals, couples and/or family groups, our Solargons can provide each possible layout your neighborhood will need. Need more square footage than is possible with a single story Solargon? Ask us about our two-story, three bedroom affordable homes.
Quality materials and methods of construction.
All materials meet or exceed standard residential requirements. The Solargon design has an ASTM class 1 fire resistant rating and a FEMA class 4 flood resistant material rating. The Solargon design was winner of the EPA’s 2004 stratospheric ozone and climate protection awards, and meets or exceeds LEED standards. Your housing project can have high quality materials and still be cost effective.
Easy siting for the best views.
The Solargon’s compact footprint provides the maximum amount of interior square footage with a minimum footprint. You’ll be able to fit more homes into your neighborhood area, while the interior of each home will feel bigger than conventional “box” houses. For high density housing situations, windows can be grouped towards green yard areas instead of facing the adjacent homes, which improves livability and preserves privacy.
Solar and green building efficiencies.
Passive solar design and open span interior space ensures good solar gain and efficient heating and cooling. The structural insulated panels (SIPs) are built with renewable, natural materials and patented connectors wherever possible, ensuring fast erection time, airtight construction, and minimal heating and cooling requirements. Your neighborhood can meet all its budget requirements and green building goals, simultaneously.
Simplified electrical installation.
Each Solargon arrives at your site with electrical chases embedded in the walls and ready for final wiring installations. Those installations are much faster than in conventional buildings. Just one more way we get your families moved into their new homes as quickly as possible.
Aircraft-grade acrylic operable skylight.
Our large, centered skylight lends lighting and airflow options to your layout which conventional skylights can’t match. Interior spaces feel brighter, more cheerful and larger, while preserving privacy in high density neighborhoods.
Competitively priced.
The cost of our high quality construction materials is more than offset by the rapid erection time and minimized utilities. If you need to optimize the lifetime cost of your project’s homes, we’ll come out ahead of other home manufacturers every single time.
