Polyurethane, What & Why
People are asking about our Polyurethane~
If this doesn’t cover it, Please e-mail us with additional questions: sunsationalgreen@gmail.com
- We do not use any glues.
- The polyurethane binds to the OSB and any other wooded elements, metal, plastic, etc.
- The foam contains no formaldehyde.
- Some brands of OSB contain trace amounts of phenol-formaldehyde, which is far less toxic than urea-formaldehyde.
- The OSB we use does not use phenolic binders.
- It uses polyisocyanurate binders, which is similar to “Gorilla Glue” and has the same base components as polyurethane.
- Ten percent of the polyurethane is agricultural materials (sugar cane, sugar beet, and corn oil). It has the highest agricultural content of any foam on the market.
- We do not use any toxic materials in the factory.
- We use soy-based solvents (see EcoProCote.com).
- Another important aspect of the foam is that it sequesters carbon into the building material instead of releasing it into the atmosphere.
- Oil made into recyclable materials is far better that oil burned.
- Also, polyurethane is made from oil byproducts leftover after making other plastics.
- It is considered a green building material by the USGBC because it is net positive (saves more energy by far than it uses).
- Polyurethane compounds don’t require heat when blending like EPS does.
